The Christmas holidays are a unique opportunity to visit the city of Matera. Walking through the streets of the Sassi at Christmas will in fact be like walking inside a real nativity scene.
From 8 December, the Matera Christmas Village (market) begins in the central Piazza Vittorio Veneto. The Living Nativity in the Sassi has become an important appointment during the Christmas period in the city of Matera. Absolutely not to be missed during the festivities are the desserts. Among these, there are the ‘strazzate’, biscuits typical of the Lucanian cuisine, made with almonds and cocoa, and the ‘cartellate’, to be eaten usually covered with honey or mulled wine.
