Santo Stefano di Sessanio is one of the most beautiful historical sites in Abruzzo and it must be protected with every possible means.

Time seems to have stopped in Santo Stefano di Sessanio.
Stone is the dominating element, all streets and alleys are suggestive… a surreal atmosphere prevails in this wonderful town that has nothing to do with the cities we all know and we all are accustomed to…

Everything seems to talk about the past times: the Middle Ages seem to be imprisoned and crystallised in the walls, the towers, the bastions… everywhere!

Santo Stefano di Sessanio is a veritable gem, a mix of history, tradition, beauty and sense of mystery.
That’s why we are firmly convinced that this wonderful Medieval town must be preserved with every possible means and effort. And that’s why, in the first years of 2000, we started the restoration project that has turned Santo Stefano di Sessanio into one of the most peculiar tourist destinations in Abruzzo.

Many elements of the town are still intact and seem to be stuck in the past, due to a period of depopulation that started in the 19th century and was caused by the gradual disappearance of transhumance, an activity that had characterised that area until that moment.

Anyway… Santo Stefano di Sessanio has been restored to its original splendour and welcomes over ten thousand visitors per year, thanks also to the presence of our albergo diffuso.
Our guests can seize the opportunity to go back in time and rediscover the most authentic traditions of Abruzzo: an experience that we think everyone should have at least once.

Still with respect to the “protection of the territory”, we wish to inform you that an “Ecological Day” will take place at the Municipal Building on the 17th July at 9:00 am.
It’s an event organised with the aim of raising public awareness and of encouraging participants to make their small but significant contribution to the safeguard of this extremely precious Medieval gem!
